Job summary

Prince William County is seeking a Senior Planner to lead complex land use entitlement reviews within the Land Use Review division. The role involves evaluating rezonings and special use permits, preparing reports with staff recommendations, and presenting to the Planning Commission and Board of County Supervisors.

Strong planning judgment, project management, and independent work style are essential. The position requires 6+ years of planning experience and may require evening public hearings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in planning, urban and regional planning or closely related field.
• Master's degree and AICP certification preferred.
• Experience with rezonings and special use permits.
• Knowledge of local/state/federal planning laws and regulations.
• Ability to lead teams and work independently.

Responsibilities

• Review land development applications and prepare staff reports.
• Research reports evaluating land use, residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
• Present findings to Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors.
• Produce staff reports and memoranda within deadlines.
• Represent the agency at public meetings, including evenings.
