Job summary

Prince William County Public Works seeks a Principal Engineer to conduct senior-level reviews of land development plans, focusing on grading, erosion and sediment control, storm drainage, floodplain studies, and stormwater management.

The ideal candidate will apply advanced engineering judgment to evaluate complex proposals and resolve issues while communicating requirements to applicants, consultants, and staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering and at least 3 years designing/reviewing land development plans.
• PE license preferred; may be required within first year.
• Virginia certifications in SWM and E&S within first year.
• Experience in erosion/sediment control, grading, storm drainage, BMPs.

Responsibilities

• Perform senior reviews of land development plans focusing on grading, erosion control, storm drainage, floodplain studies, and stormwater management.
• Apply advanced engineering knowledge to evaluate complex development proposals and identify technical issues.
• Communicate review requirements clearly to applicants, consultants, County staff, and stakeholders.
• Independently manage multiple projects and deadlines with accuracy and consistency.
