Job summary

VCA Code is seeking Senior Plan Check Engineers, Plan Check Engineers, and ICC Plans Examiners to join our Plan Review team in California. The team values ICC-certified Plans Examiners and candidates with a CA PE license.

Responsibilities include reviewing residential, commercial, and industrial plans, evaluating seismic and wind loads, and ensuring compliance with California Building Codes. In-person, hybrid, or remote opportunities may be available based on position and qualifications.

Qualifications

• Plan review experience with a municipality, building department, or consulting firm (CA preferred).
• Experience reviewing residential, commercial, and/or industrial projects.
• Strong knowledge of California Building Codes and applicable state and local requirements.
• Ability to review and interpret architectural plans, structural plans, specs, and calculations.
• Ability to prepare clear and substantive plan check corrections with code references.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Review building and structural plans for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
• Review architectural and structural plans, specifications, and calculations for code compliance.
• Review structural calculations, including seismic and wind loads.
• Review building, accessibility, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, energy, CALGreen, and fire/life-safety requirements.
• Prepare clear and substantive plan check comments with applicable code references.
• Respond to technical questions from architects, engineers, contractors, and applicants.
• Assist with complex plan review issues and interpretation of new or updated code requirements.
• Utilize electronic plan review software and other applicable technology.
