Burns & McDonnell seeks experienced Pipeline Engineers to oversee pipeline engineering and consulting services from our Atlanta, GA, Charlotte, NC, or Chattanooga, TN offices. Lead teams in delivering design deliverables across varied project sizes and coordinate with multiple disciplines to meet client needs.

The role includes design planning, surveys and permitting coordination, cost estimates, and client liaison.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering with 7 years of pipeline experience.
  • Alternative ABET-accredited degree with FE exam and 7 years of pipeline experience.
  • Master's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering with 6+ years of pipeline experience.
  • PE license preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of pipeline design standards (ASME B31.8, 49 CFR Part 192/195).
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead in the execution of engineering activities for pipelines.
  • Pipeline design including plans, profiles, details, and BOM.
  • Coordinate surveys, geotechnical investigations, permitting, and land acquisition.
  • Perform calculations for studies and reports.
  • Prepare material and equipment specifications for procurement or FAT.
  • Lead proposals and scope development including conceptual designs and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate design with other disciplines (Pipeline Facilities, Civil/Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation and Control).
  • Develop and improve design processes and factory acceptance testing.
  • Provide leadership, training, and mentoring to engineers and team members.
  • Engage with clients and outside personnel; provide field support during construction.
  • Support business development and marketing initiatives.

Description

Our SE Region is seeking experienced Pipeline Engineers to sit in our Atlanta, GA, Charlotte, NC, or Chattanooga, TN offices and be responsible for oversight of pipeline engineering and consulting services for clients across the US. Main responsibilities include leading others in creating pipeline design deliverables. Projects range in size and complexity from small utility distribution upgrades to large transmission projects. This position can influence the growth and success of the Pipelines group. Opportunities to advance into leadership roles are available.

Pipeline Engineer may include full or partial responsibility for the following assignments:

  • Lead in the execution of engineering activities:
  • Pipeline design, including plans, profiles, details, and associated bill of materials
  • Coordination to obtain survey, geotechnical investigations, permitting, and land acquisition
  • Calculations for studies and reports
  • Material and equipment specifications for procurement and/or factory acceptance testing
  • Lead in preparation of proposals and scope development, including:
  • Conceptual designs and execution plans
  • Engineering/project cost estimates and schedules
  • Lead coordination of design activities with other disciplines (Pipeline Facilities, Civil/Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation and Control, etc.)
  • Develop and improve processes, tools, and/or factory acceptance testing
  • Provide leadership, training, and mentoring to less experienced engineers and team members
  • Regularly meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel
  • Provide short-term field support during construction
  • Support business development and marketing initiatives
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering, or a related degree from an ABET-accredited program, and 7 years of pipeline engineering experience required. EPC project experience preferred.
  • Or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering Technology or related degree from an ABET-accredited program, successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and 7 years of pipeline engineering experience required. EPC project experience preferred.
  • Or Master's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering and 6 years of pipeline engineering experience required. EPC project experience preferred.
  • Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong computer skills (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, ATF).
  • Proficiency with 49 CFR Part 192 and ASME B31.8. Familiarity with 49 CFR Part 195 and ASME B31.4 is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
