Job summary

ISG is seeking an experienced Senior Physical Substation Engineer in Bloomington, MN to lead high‑voltage subsystems design, including layout, bus work, grounding and routing. You will work with utility clients to ensure safety, reliability and constructability, mentoring junior staff and delivering quality packages.

You will coordinate with civil, structural and protection teams; review deliverables, and drive design improvements while meeting schedules and budgets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems.
• Professional Engineer license is required.
• 5+ years of substation physical design experience on medium to large projects.
• Experience with grounding analysis software (WinIGS, CYME, CDEGS).
• Experience with lighting analysis software (Visual Lighting, AGi32, DIALux, Revit).
• Experience with Substation Design Suite (SDS) and Inventor preferred but not required.
• Strong understanding of substation equipment and configurations; ability to interface with clients.

Responsibilities

• Develop and review complete physical design packages for high-voltage substations, including diagrams, GA drawings, bus layouts, grounding, and routing plans.
• Ensure compliance with IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NESC, NFPA standards.
• Optimize substation layouts for safety, reliability, constructability, and cost efficiency.
• Oversee integration of civil, structural, and protection and control requirements.
• Lead design coordination meetings with clients, utilities, vendors, and internal teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers, providing structured feedback.
• Forecast design hours and support project schedules and budgets.
