Job summary

Control Risks is seeking a Physical Security Designer to support the growth of its Built Environment & Infrastructure design practice in North America. The role includes preparing drawings, tech docs, specifications, and schedules for electronic and non-electronic physical protection systems across upgrades and new construction.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in design, construction, electronics engineering, security delivery, and/or physical protection systems design.
• Experience designing electronic security systems (access control, intrusion detection, video surveillance, duress, emergency communications...).
• Experience interpreting building codes, life safety codes, accessibility, and security standards within design projects.
• Ability to travel for site surveys, design meetings, and deployment activities.

Responsibilities

• Prepare design documents, basis of design narratives, equipment specifications and 30/100% drawings.
• Coordinate drawings and technical files for electronic protection systems (access control, CCTV, duress, intercom).
• Support non-electronic protection measures (perimeter, CPTED, barriers, hardening).
• Mentor non-designer security professionals to contribute to design requirements.
• Quality reviews of design documents, submittals, and schedules.
• Site surveys, existing conditions reviews, and security assessments across projects.
• Translate risk findings into practical design requirements and deliverables.
• Coordinate with architects, engineers, and project teams to deliver secure solutions.
• Contribute to proposals, scopes, LOEs and budgets.
