Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Verifies test requisitions and notes any discrepancies with nursing staff.
• Verifies patient identity by reading patient identification.
• Obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks.
• Maintains specimen integrity by aseptic technique and following department procedures.
• Tracks collected specimens by dating, initialing, and noting times of collection.
• Maintains quality results by following procedures and logging results in the quality-control log.
• Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and regulatory requirements.
• Resolves unusual test orders by contacting the physician or lab and clarifying orders with the originator.
• Updates job knowledge by continuing education and reading professional publications.
• Enhances department by taking ownership of new requests and adding value to job accomplishments.
• Handles PHI in paper and electronic form and uses access to PHI systems as part of the job.
• Completes HIPAA/PHI privacy and security training within 30 days of hire and maintains training status.
• Manages printing/logistics of patient reports and assists with billing inquiries.
• Schedules courier pickups (FedEx or Medspeed).
