Qualifications

  • Phlebotomy Certificate required by state (if required).
  • Minimum 5 years phlebotomy experience.
  • Ability to adhere to hospital policies, federal/state requirements, and HIPAA standards.
  • Office setting with scrubs required.
  • Position requires tracking of each draw.

Job description

Serve patients by identifying the best method for retrieving blood, preparing specimens for laboratory testing, and performing screening procedures
Verify test requisitions against nursing station logs and resolve discrepancies
Verify patient identification
Obtain blood specimens through venipunctures and finger sticks
Maintain specimen integrity using aseptic technique and following isolation procedures
Track collected specimens and maintain daily collection tallies
Follow quality-control procedures, record results, and report needed changes
Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment in compliance with standards and legal regulations
Resolve unusual test orders with physicians, pathologists, nursing stations, or reference laboratories
Maintain job knowledge through education, professional publications, networks, and organizations
Handle PHI in paper and electronic form and complete HIPAA/PHI, policy compliance, and security training within the first 30 days
Maintain current Natera training requirements
Manage and print patient reports
Answer and triage billing questions and follow up with patients
Schedule courier pickups through FedEx or Medspeed

Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years of phlebotomy experience
  • BS/BA degree (preferred)
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) required
  • Phlebotomy Certificate (if required by State)
  • Ability to adhere to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and JCAHO standards
  • Work in an office setting with scrubs required
