Job summary

Foundation Health Partners in Fairbanks, AK, is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to work under the supervision of a pharmacist. You will assist in packaging, distribution, and record keeping of medications, and help prepare compounded and IV medications, including TPN and hazardous drugs.

Responsibilities include supervising Technician Apprentices and Volunteers, training new staff, and ensuring compliance with policies.

Qualifications

• Requires Alaska pharmacy technician licensure upon hire.
• Pharmacy technician certification required (CPhT or ExCPT).
• Two (2) years of experience in a FHP pharmacy technician role or equivalent.
• Must have good organizational, problem solving, math and computer skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for interfacing with staff, physicians, patients and others.
• Knowledge of computer software, particularly medication management information system software, Microsoft applications and automated dispensing systems.

Responsibilities

• Selects and prepares medications under direct supervision as indicated on patient orders.
• Places medications in patient boxes or designated areas for pharmacist to check; delivers medications to nursing units as required.
• Investigates missing medication requests and manages charges/credits for medications and IV solutions.
• Restocks unused and credited returned medications and assists in preparing financial reports and data entry tasks.
• Identifies medications for reorder to maintain continuous inventory; coordinates restocking with vendors.
• Compounds specialty drug products and repackages bulk medications into unit-of-use packaging with proper documentation.
• Assists in preparing and labeling IV medication orders including TPN and hazardous meds using sterile technique.
• Trains others and supervises workflow in the pharmacy; participates in staffing scheduling and coverage.
• May use automated dispensing technology and restock medications to nursing/ancillary areas; investigates discrepancies.
