Job summary

TAI in Fairfax, VA is seeking a Senior Automation & Controls Engineer/SME to lead control system design for complex pharma and life sciences projects from concept through commissioning.

You will review designs, define technical requirements, guide Design Contractors, ensure GMP and SHE compliance, and contribute to project planning and procurement strategies. This is a full-time role offering stakeholder collaboration and technical leadership across multiple projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering; Master’s is a plus.
• Professional Engineer licensure preferred.
• 8+ years of control system design experience creating construction documents.
• 3+ years in Pharma/Biotech/Life Science projects.
• Experience with Rockwell PLCs, HMI programming, instrumentation, and electrical drawings.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP, Modbus, Profibus and NFPA 70 hazardous area design.

Responsibilities

• Engage with stakeholders to ensure needs are reflected in CD design.
• Prepare Project Technical Requirements Specification for systems and standards.
• Define design deliverables for CD, BD, DD with appropriate review level.
• Review Contractor responses to ensure requirements are included.
• Produce regular Design Assurance Reports and support procurement strategy.
