Job summary

City of Indianapolis seeks a supervisor for the permits section to ensure ILP, Structural, Sign, and Wrecking permit requests are dispatched and processed in compliance with state and city codes. The role oversees Project Development Analysts and coordinates with multiple agencies to maintain accurate permit issuance and SOP adherence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field; two years of directly related construction industry experience; one year may substitute for each year of education.
• Working knowledge of all applicable building codes and ordinances.
• Ability to prioritize, handle heavy workload, and public speak with presentations.
• Ability to review plans, specifications, and determine necessary permits for construction sites.
• Ability to supervise subordinates and maintain reporting procedures and documentation.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications; communicate effectively with inspectors, contractors, and the public.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily activities for the Project Development Analyst.
• Review and verify accuracy of permits issued; ensure errors are corrected.
• Supervise staff performance and implement corrective actions.
• Coordinate with state and federal agencies and adjacent counties.
• Attend meetings and provide training to staff on permit processes and SOPs.
• Develop reports for unit improvements and provide expert testimony when required.
• Assist in evaluating training needs and in training Project Development Analysts.
