Job summary

Safety Management Group in Indianapolis, IN, is looking for a Permit Writer who prioritizes safety and coordinates construction permits while supporting site safety observations and HSE activities.

The candidate will complete hot work, trenching, and other permits, monitor sites, and participate in progress meetings with stakeholders. A minimum of 5+ years in permitting and OSHA 30 Construction is required; a related degree is preferred, and weekend work may be needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of construction permitting experience.
• OSHA 30 - Construction certification required.
• Degree in safety or related field preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of confined space, hot work, and general permitting.
• Ability to work some weekends.

Responsibilities

• Complete work permits (hot work, CSE, trenching, and Safe Work permits).
• Monitor the work area during the duration of open permits.
• Provide general HSE support (i.e., job observations).
• Site safety observations, including documentation of findings.
• Facilitate corrective measures where warranted.
• Represent the contractor or the Owner in progress meetings.
• Write permits that align with current construction projects.
• Verify compliance with safety policies and procedures as required by law and the Owner.
