Job summary

SET Active is seeking a Senior Manager, People Operations to own the People function as the company grows. You will be the primary HR partner to employees, managers, and leadership, overseeing core HR operations, payroll, benefits, and employee experience.

The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of California employment law, employee relations, talent strategy, and HR systems, with a hands-on approach to building scalable processes and driving a compliant, high-performance workplace.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive HR experience.
• Strong knowledge of California and federal employment laws.
• Experience managing employee relations, investigations, and compliance matters.
• Experience owning HR operations, payroll, benefits, and HR systems.
• Experience managing external recruiting partners.
• Strong business partnership and manager coaching skills.
• Excellent judgment, communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growing organization.

Responsibilities

• Own HR & compliance across the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, leave administration, performance management, employee relations, and offboarding.
• Develop and maintain HR policies, procedures, and handbook updates.
• Ensure compliance with federal and California employment laws and workplace requirements.
• Manage HR compliance, audits, filings, training, and safety requirements.
• Serve as the primary HR resource for employee and manager questions.
• Partner with legal counsel on complex employment matters as needed.
• Own HR operations, payroll, benefits, and HRIS relationships with vendors.
• Maintain accurate employee records, HR data, and reporting.
• Coach managers on performance, engagement, and policy application.
• Partner with leadership on workforce planning and hiring priorities.
• Own recruiting processes and work with external partners.
• Oversee performance management processes and career development.
