Job summary

Arnold & Porter is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist to manage accurate U.S. payroll processing, multi-state compliance, and year-end reporting. The role collaborates with HR, Benefits, and Accounting in a fast-paced professional services environment and may work fully remote in a firm-approved U.S. state.

Key responsibilities include end-to-end payroll processing, tax elections, deductions, and reconciliations, as well as supporting audits and maintaining strong internal controls.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive payroll experience; law firm or professional services preferred.
  • CPP preferred; FPC accepted.
  • Experience with multi-state payroll and tax compliance required.
  • Proficiency with UKG/Kronos or similar payroll system and advanced Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Process U.S. payrolls end-to-end, including multi-state compliance.
  • Review tax elections, direct deposit changes, deductions, and PTO payouts.
  • Ensure federal, state, and local payroll tax compliance across jurisdictions.
  • Support audits and maintain audit-ready payroll records.
  • Collaborate with HR, Benefits, and Accounting on payroll issues and GL posting.
