Job summary

WellSpan Health seeks a Payroll Specialist to manage payroll processing accuracy, tax calculations, and timekeeping records for staff in the Chambersburg area. You will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local rules while maintaining precise data and reporting.

You will collaborate with payroll leads, educate timekeepers, and drive process improvements across pay cycles, deductions, and regulatory updates to support efficient operations.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree required.
• 4 years payroll processing experience.
• Experience with Lawson and Kronos preferred.
• CPC designation through APA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Is accountable for the accuracy of payroll checks, tax calculations, deductions, pay codes and general maintenance of the payroll and timekeeping systems.
• Monitors implementation of legal issues and advises the payroll leads for implementation.
• Educates supervisors and other timekeepers in the use of the timekeeping system.
• Coordinates the application of rules and regulations regarding pay and ensures compliance with federal, state and local tax rules.
• Understands how WellSpan pay processes and policies work in conjunction with external regulations and with other HR and Finance related processes.
• Takes the initiative to ensure that these processes work appropriately together and are not creating adverse results for one or another system.
• Assist the payroll leads to research and develop reports, spreadsheets and documents to assist in payroll automated solutions and processes.
• As a member of the Payroll processing team, verifies time records and works with timekeepers and managers/supervisors to ensure accurate records and payroll processing.
• Calculates special adjustments, rates, tax deductions, benefits and other deductions for special, unusual or corrected payroll runs.
• Works closely with leave coordinator in managing the records of staff on leaves of absence.
• Produces and reviews voluntary deduction reports and processes involuntary deductions such as garnishments and levies.
• Validates the payroll process during regular and off pay week processing.
• Helps employees understand their payroll information as needed.
• Performs scheduled and regular tasks as part of payroll processing.
• Maintains appropriate record keeping and reporting of time record information. Compiles data and prepares regularly scheduled and special report.
