Albemarle County is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist to join the Department of Budget & Finance. The role focuses on the preparation, administration, auditing, and reconciliation of payroll functions with a strong emphasis on accuracy and compliance.
The position is full-time, hybrid-eligible, and requires the ability to work with complex payroll data, provide reports, and support end users with payroll-related inquiries.

Under general supervision, this position performs complex specialized technical work in the areas of finance involving the preparation, administration, auditing, and reconciliation of the payroll functions.
The hiring range for this position is $30.60 - $33.83 per hour (approximately $63,664 - $70,366 per year). Starting offer is based on applicable education beyond minimum requirements and internal equity. The position also provides excellent benefits including 12 paid holidays, paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance options with employer contribution, employer-paid life insurance, VRS retirement, and continuing education/training opportunities. This is a full time, FLSA non-exempt position.Internal candidates will receive pay adjustments in accordance with Local Government Personnel Policy, §P-60.
This role is designated as hybrid-eligible, allowing employees to perform a portion of their work remotely, in accordance with organizational policy and operational requirements. On-site presence may be required for meetings, collaboration, or business needs as determined by management. All County staff must maintain residence within the Commonwealth of Virginia.
