Job summary

Hoxton Circle, a private equity-backed distribution business, is hiring a Payroll Manager to own payroll end to end. You will be the payroll expert, running every cycle, owning the system and ensuring pay practices meet California wage and hour rules.

This standalone role reports directly to senior leadership and emphasizes building clean processes and strong controls. You will manage multi-state payroll, time and attendance for a large hourly workforce, and collaborate with the accounting team

Qualifications

• 7+ years of payroll experience, including 3+ years owning a payroll function.
• Deep knowledge of California wage and hour law for hourly, non-exempt employees.
• Multi-state payroll and tax experience.
• Solid understanding of payroll accounting, GL entries and reconciliations.
• UKG Ready experience preferred; strong experience on another major platform is acceptable.
• Comfortable as the sole payroll owner with good judgment to flag and fix issues.

Responsibilities

• Run bi-weekly and off-cycle payroll end to end for exempt and non-exempt employees across multiple states.
• Own California wage and hour compliance, including daily overtime, double time, meal and rest premiums and regular rate calculations on bonuses and incentives.
• Manage time and attendance for a large hourly workforce that clocks in and out.
• Handle multi-state payroll taxes, filings and agency notices, plus year-end and W-2 processing.
• Prepare payroll journal entries, accruals and reconciliations with the accounting team.
• Administer and improve the payroll and timekeeping system, building automation and self-service where it saves time.
• Write the procedures and controls for each payroll process and support audits.
• Bring employees from acquired businesses onto payroll and harmonize pay practices.
