Job summary

Embarc in Sacramento, CA is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead payroll operations across our multi-location California organization. This role is hands-on, acts as the internal payroll expert, and collaborates with HR, Finance, Legal and Operations to ensure accurate, timely, compliant payroll that supports growth.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years of progressive payroll experience, strong knowledge of wage and hour laws, union payroll experience, and proven ability to build scalable

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive payroll experience in a multi-location organization.
• Experience supporting a unionized workforce and interpreting CBAs.
• Strong knowledge of California wage-and-hour laws and payroll compliance.
• Experience managing payroll systems and process improvements.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Own and execute biweekly payroll across multiple California locations.
• Review timecards, new hires, terminations, promotions, transfers, leaves, and pay changes.
• Manage complex payroll scenarios including retroactive pay, bonuses, commissions, differentials, shift premiums, tips, and corrections.
• Ensure payroll is accurate, on time, and compliant with policies and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain complete payroll records and protect confidential employee information.
• Research and resolve payroll discrepancies and employee questions promptly.
• Partner with HR, Finance, Legal, and Operations to support business needs.
