Job summary

Carolina PRG is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist on a temporary basis to support a high-volume, multi-state payroll environment. The role requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work across HR, Finance, and IT to ensure accurate payroll processing.

You will perform audits, reconciliations, and respond to employee questions while partnering with external vendors as needed. Prior multi-state experience is essential.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll experience in a high-volume, multi-state environment.
• Strong knowledge of payroll processing, taxes, deductions, garnishments, and reconciliations.
• Experience researching and resolving complex payroll discrepancies.
• Ability to meet payroll deadlines with strong attention to detail.
• Experience with payroll audits, controls, and process improvement.
• Strong communication and cross-department collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage semi-monthly and off-cycle payroll activities in a high-volume, multi-state environment.
• Perform detailed payroll audits and reconciliations, research discrepancies, and resolve payroll issues.
• Identify root causes of recurring payroll issues and help implement solutions to improve accuracy.
• Respond to employee questions related to pay, deductions, taxes, timekeeping, garnishments, and other payroll matters.
• Review employee and payroll data changes for accuracy, including tax elections, deductions, garnishments, and other transactions.
• Partner across HR, Finance, IT, and external vendors to troubleshoot issues and support payroll process improvements.
• Maintain payroll procedures and documentation while ensuring compliance with internal controls and applicable regulations.
• Assist with payroll reporting, year end activities, system testing, and special projects as needed

This opportunity is ideal for someone with strong high volume, multi state payroll experience who is comfortable working through complex payroll issues, performing detailed reconciliations, and identifying opportunities to improve accuracy and processes.

The Senior Payroll Specialist will work closely with Payroll, HR, Finance, IT, and external partners to support accurate and timely payroll processing in a complex environment.
