Job summary

Group 1 Automotive in Houston, TX is seeking a Payroll Supervisor to lead multi-state payroll operations, ensure accuracy, and drive process improvements across Payroll Services. This role partners with Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, and external vendors to deliver timely payroll while maintaining controls.

You will coach and develop the payroll team, oversee tax compliance, settlements, year-end activities, and system integrity, and continuously optimize workflows to support business

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or 5+ years of related experience.
• 2+ years payroll experience in a corporate or multi-location environment; supervisory experience preferred.
• Payroll certifications (FPC, CPP) a plus.
• In-depth understanding of payroll regulations and tax laws; Workday or similar systems.

Responsibilities

• Manage weekly, bi-weekly, and semi-monthly payrolls for a large multi-state, multi-entity organization.
• Lead payroll team through training, performance management, and day-to-day guidance.
• Ensure payroll transactions are processed accurately and in compliance with policies and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee payroll tax, settlement, funding, and year-end processes for compliance.
• Maintain payroll system integrity with timekeeping, HRIS, and downstream financial systems.
• Review payroll audits, reconciliations, and control processes to ensure data integrity.
• Prepare payroll-related accruals and GL interfaces with Accounting and Finance teams.
• Serve as escalation point for complex payroll inquiries and issues.
• Partner with HR, Accounting, Finance, Treasury, IT, and vendors to support payroll operations.
