Job summary

Group 1 Automotive is seeking an Assistant Payroll Manager to lead multi-state payroll operations across our sprawling dealership network. You will oversee processing, accuracy, and compliance while partnering with HR, Accounting, and external vendors to support smooth payroll delivery.

The role requires a strong background in payroll regulations, tax laws, and experience supervising payroll staff, ideally with Workday or similar platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred; 5+ years experience considered in lieu of degree.
• 2+ years of payroll experience in a corporate/multi-location environment, including supervision.
• Payroll certification (FPC, CPP) is a big plus; strong knowledge of payroll regulations and tax laws.

Responsibilities

• Lead payroll processing for weekly, bi-weekly, and semi-monthly cycles across a large multi-state, multi-entity organization.
• Partner with HR, Accounting, Finance, Treasury and vendors to ensure accurate payroll delivery.
• Maintain payroll system integrity and data confidentiality; oversee system testing and year-end processes.
