Job summary

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive payroll experience, preferably for a large, multi-location or complex workforce.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field preferred.
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) preferred.
• Experience in nonprofit, behavioral health, healthcare, human services, or other regulated environments preferred.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage end-to-end payroll for approximately 1,500 employees, including timecard validation and pay calculations.
• Maintain the payroll calendar and address missing timecards, approvals, employee changes, system issues, and processing deadlines.
• Perform payroll audits and reconciliations to identify errors, unusual variances, missing or duplicate payments, and other exceptions before finalization.
• Serve as payroll subject-matter expert for the payroll system, including configuration, reporting, workflows, troubleshooting, testing, and opportunities for automation.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll taxes, wage and hour laws, garnishments, and year-end reporting.
• Support payroll general ledger reconciliation, accruals, monthly and year-end close, audit documentation, and resolution of payroll accounting differences.
