Job summary

American University is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist to audit and analyze biweekly and monthly payrolls, including termination payouts, overtime for multi-position employees, and Workday EIB file loading.

The role supports the Payroll Office, ensures compliance with regulations and university policies, and acts as a backup to Payroll Specialists and the Operations Manager. The position is full-time, hybrid (On Campus 3-4 days/week), and requires confidentiality and timely processing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in business administration, accounting, or another relevant field.
• 2-4 years of relevant payroll experience.
• Excel skills – formulas, lookups.
• Experience using ERP/payroll systems.

Responsibilities

• Audits biweekly and monthly payrolls and ensures accuracy.
• Reviews new hires, changes, terminations, and retro pay events.
• Calculates wages and benefit payments, including multi-job overtime.
• Responds to inquiries via ServiceNow, email, and phone.
• Provides backup for Payroll Operations Manager and Workday tasks.
