Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of healthcare experience, or one year with clinical rotation in related program.
• One year of healthcare experience plus a health sciences bachelor's degree.
• Completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician Senior training.
• Basic information systems training completed.
• Annual arrhythmia course with ongoing competency.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced patient care under RN direction, including ADLs, procedures, therapies, and patient monitoring.
• Perform core PCT competencies such as vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry, EKGs, and specimen collection.
• Assist with unit and patient needs, including transport of cardiac monitored patients.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment following infection control protocols.
• Monitor patients and report changes in condition or equipment issues promptly.
• Document care and complete clerical functions as needed.
• Support unit operations and quality initiatives, including department activities.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Two years of healthcare experience

One year of healthcare experience with clinical rotation in PT/OT/PA or related field

One year of healthcare experience with a health sciences bachelor's degree

Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician Senior training

Completion of basic information systems training

Successful completion of a basic arrhythmia course with ongoing annual competency
