Job summary

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking a Senior Patient Access Representative to register patients for the Emergency Department and other hospital registration areas. The role includes acting as a registrar system super-user, taking on on-call rotations during the week and weekends, participating in interviews, QA audits, and reporting, while mentoring staff and coordinating department orientation.

Promotion paths exist within Patient Access.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent required.
• 2 years of Customer Service and/or Data Entry.
• Healthcare experience preferred (2 years in a related area).
• Proficiency in keyboarding.

Responsibilities

• Register patients for the Emergency Department and other registration areas.
• Serve as registrar system super-user and mentor staff.
• Participate in on-call rotation during week and weekends.
• Assist in interviewing, QA audits, and reporting.
• Support department leadership and supply management.
• Provide preceptor orientation to new staff.

Responsibilities include registering patients for the Emergency Department, and/or various registration areas of the hospital. The Patient Access Team Leader also assists the Team Coordinator and department leadership by serving as registration system super-user, taking on-call rotation during the week and on the weekends, participating in the interviewing process, preparing and reviewing reports, performing QA audits, mentoring and training staff, managing department supply levels, and participating in meetings and workgroups. The Team Lead is required to meet the written requirements and competency to serve as a preceptor and to provide department orientation.
