Job summary

Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, VA is seeking a Part-Time Patient Access Representative for the Emergency Department. You will register patients, verify identities, scan documents, and enter demographic and insurance data into the electronic health record, while guiding patients through forms and payment collection.

You will greet patients, answer questions, assist with scheduling, pre-admission and discharge tasks, and may supervise and update families in waiting areas.

Qualifications

• HS graduate or equivalent
• 2 years of Customer Service and/or Data Entry
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in lieu of two years of experience
• Proficiency in keyboarding

Responsibilities

• Register patients and verify identity and correct record
• Review schedules and orders to register for the appropriate service
• Scan insurance cards, IDs, Living Wills, and POAs
• Enter demographic and insurance information into the EHR
• Explain and collect regulatory/compliance documents and collect co-pays
• Greet patients and families, answer questions, guide to service areas
• May perform scheduling, pre-admission, and discharge tasks
• Provide updates to families in waiting rooms

City/StateNorfolk, VAWork ShiftFirst (Days)Overview:Part-Time, Nights, Emergency DepartmentAs a Patient Access Representative with Sentara, you will be responsible for all aspects of the patient registration process, including: verifying the patient identity and selecting the correct patient record, reviewing schedules and physician orders to register the patient for the appropriate service, scanning important documents such as insurance cards, ID's, Living Wills, and POAs and verifying and entering the patient's demographic and insurance information in the electronic health record. During the registration process, the Patient Access Rep will explain and complete complex regulatory and compliance documents and adhere to all applicable privacy and compliance standards. They also explain and collect co-payments, deposits, and outstanding balances and perform the transactions securely. In most areas, the Patient Access Rep is the first point of contact for patients and provides the first impression of Sentara. They greet patients and families, answer questions, and ensure the patients arrive to the appropriate service area at the right time.
