Job summary

Stinson LLP seeks an experienced patent agent to join the patent prosecution group in our Intellectual Property and Technology Division. The role focuses on drafting and prosecuting US and foreign applications, with ownership of prosecution timelines and client communications.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in patent preparation/prosecution, strong writing and analytical skills, and the ability to coordinate with foreign firms, docketing staff, and supervising partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or similar field.
• Exceptional writing, analytical and communication skills.
• Minimum 5 years in patent preparation and prosecution.
• Experience managing patent prosecution docket and ownership mindset.
• Collaboration with partners, admins, paralegals, and docketing specialists.
• Law firm or in-house IP experience.

Responsibilities

• Draft and globally prosecute patent applications.
• Coordinate with foreign law firms to file foreign patents.
• Correspond with clients for processing and legalization of documents.
• Review country requirements and obtain Foreign Filing License as needed.
• Prepare and send notices to clients about deadlines.
• Communicate with foreign firms on filings, deadlines and billings.
• Anticipate needs for projects and delegate with support staff.
• Meet billable hour target of 1650 per year.
• Other duties as assigned.
