Job summary

AbbVie in the Chicago area seeks a Principal Research Scientist I in Process Analytical Technology to lead a small PAT team within Analytical R&D. You will establish and execute PAT strategies for synthetic molecule programs, supporting drug substance and drug product development from early development through validation, tech transfer, and manufacturing implementation.

The role requires deep expertise in chemometrics, multivariate analysis, and spectroscopic methods (NIR, Raman, FTIR, UV-Vis).

Qualifications

• Experience leading PAT strategy and method development across development lifecycle.
• Strong hands-on chemometrics, model validation, and data-analysis skills.
• Experience with spectroscopic PAT methods (NIR/Raman/IR) and online monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Mentor and develop a small PAT team; plan priorities and ensure delivery.
• Create and manage an integrated PAT strategy for drug substance and drug product programs.
• Lead feasibility assessments, development, validation, and technology transfer of PAT solutions.
