Job summary

AbbVie in Massachusetts seeks a Principal Research Scientist I to lead analytical activities within a high-throughput testing group for late-stage biologics programs. You will supervise junior scientists, mentor colleagues, and collaborate across process analytics and development teams to deliver robust data and scalable methods.

Requirements include a PhD or MS with extensive experience in analytical development and leadership, with expertise in HPLC, capillary electrophoresis, MS, and ELISA;

Qualifications

• PhD or MS with extensive experience in analytical development or process analytics.
• 6+ years of relevant experience (PhD) or 10+ years (MS) in analytical development.
• Hands-on method development for protein/impurity analysis (HPLC, CE, MS, ELISA).
• Strong leadership, organizational and cross-functional communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead analytical activities within a high-throughput testing group for biologics late-stage programs.
• Serve as subject matter expert for separation-based methods (HPLC, CE).
• Evaluate and select fit-for-purpose analytical technologies and methods.
• Provide guidance and hands-on support for method development and troubleshooting.
• Mentor and supervise junior scientists; oversee testing schedules and data delivery.
• Drive automation and high-throughput workflows; foster continuous improvement.
