The SBC Executive Committee in Louisiana seeks a pastor to serve as spiritual leader for First Baptist Church, providing administrative leadership and supervising church staff to guide the overall ministry.

The pastor proclaims the gospel, plans worship and observances, counsels members, visits the sick, and leads outreach, mission involvement, and disciple-making within the community.

Responsibilities

• Provide administrative leadership by supervising other church staff members and overseeing the entire church program.
• Plan, coordinate and lead the congregational services and observance of church ordinances.
• Proclaim the gospel and train the church in proclaiming it to the church and community.
• Visitation of members and counseling for salvation, personal or domestic problems, or other needs.
• Lead in ministry of outreach and provide leadership to establish an effective counseling ministry.

Pastor Position Description

The pastor is the spiritual leader of the church and shall assume all such responsibilities necessary for leading the ministry of First Baptist Church. He shall provide administrative leadership by supervising other church staff members and shall be responsible for overseeing the entire church program.

Spiritual Responsibilities

• Spiritual leader and overseer of the congregation
• Proclaim the gospel
• Train and lead the church in proclaiming the gospel to the church and community
• Maintain a strong emphasis on mission involvement
• Plan, coordinate and lead the congregational services
• Plan for and provide leadership in the observance of the church ordinances

Administrative Responsibilities

• Supervision of church staff members
  • Plan and conduct weekly staff meetings
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with all staff members concerning the fulfillment of their responsibilities and the total church ministries and activities
  • The entire church staff will meet together quarterly for the purpose of enhancement and fulfillment of the entire church program
• Schedule and plan church council meetings and serve as chairman of church council
• Serve as moderator of the church
• Serve as an ex-officio member of all committees
• Counsel with and assist in training deacons for their responsibilities
• Participate and promote in associational, state and convention activities

Pastoral Care

• Visitation of those hospitalized by injury or illness
• Visitation in the homes of those members who have special needs, such as the loss of a loved one, strained family relationships, particular personal problems, etc.
• Counseling in the church office or at home with those seeking salvation and those of the church membership and others planning a marriage and wedding ceremony, experiencing personal or domestic problems, contemplating a decision, etc.
• Conducting such services as wedding ceremonies and funeral rites
• Lead in ministry of outreach
• Provide leadership to establish an effective counseling ministry, using church staff and volunteers
