Job summary

Sacramento Regional Transit District is seeking a journey-level mechanic who can work with limited supervision, lead within the area, and perform diagnoses and repairs of coaches and other vehicles.

You will diagnose complex issues, read schematics, and maintain/repair hydraulic, electrical and air conditioning systems across gas, diesel, propane, and CNG coaches. The role also involves minor body work and eventual mentorship to less senior mechanics.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of full-time journey-level experience diagnosing and repairing gas, diesel and/or CNG powered buses, trucks, and related equipment.
• Prefer training in automotive or diesel mechanics.
• Possession of a Mechanic A rating or Regional Transit certification of ability to diagnose, repair, and overhaul electrical and mechanical systems for coaches, cars, trucks and other equipment.
• EPA Refrigerant Recovery/Containment Type II certificate or the ability to obtain it.

Responsibilities

• Performs complex diagnoses and inspections to determine causes of failures in engines, transmissions, generators, pumps, and other vehicle systems.
• Reads blueprints, schematics, and job orders to determine the proper repair actions.
• Maintains and repairs coach systems including hydraulic, electrical, brakes, and air conditioning in gas, diesel, propane, and CNG coaches.
• Diagnoses and repairs all electronics on the fleet’s coaches.
• Performs major overhauls and tune-ups of brakes and steering systems.
• Changes windows/seats and repairs wheelchair lifts; performs minor body work.
• Opens and drives coaches to diagnose component failure and move disabled coaches.
• Provides training and assistance to less senior mechanics.
