Job summary

The Maine Department of Transportation is seeking an experienced Senior Paralegal to join its Office of Legal Services in Augusta, ME. You will draft, review, and develop contracts and other legal instruments to support transportation projects across the state.

You will work closely with attorneys and staff to interpret requirements, adapt language, and ensure compliance with federal and Maine laws, while growing subject‑matter knowledge and contributing to a collaborative legal team.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and at least three years of paralegal experience.
Experience drafting substantive legal documents, including contracts and licenses.
Ability to interpret project requirements and craft clear legal language.
Experience with federal and state laws applicable to transportation projects.
Strong communication and teamwork in a structured legal environment.

Responsibilities

Draft, review, and develop contracts, licenses, and interagency agreements.
Translate business needs into clear contractual provisions with attorneys and staff.
Conduct legal and regulatory research on federal and Maine statutes.
Support compliance by incorporating terms into agreements.
Assist with rulemaking document prep and tracking.
Assist FOAA responses with document collection and review.
