Job summary

Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Senior Engineer to join the Paper Technical Center within the Manufacturing Technical Group. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across Georgia-Pacific’s North American paper making assets, interfacing with both hourly and salary staff.

You will diagnose root causes, drive asset performance improvements, support installation and commissioning of new assets, travel regularly (50-70%), and mentor engineers and operators at multiple facilities.

Qualifications

  • 10-year combined experience in manufacturing/engineering roles supporting paper making operations.
  • Knowledge of paper making equipment and process areas (headbox, yankee steam systems, hood systems, formation, sheet handling, pressure rolls, machine clothing).
  • Ability to read P&ID’s, layout drawings, and mechanical drawings.
  • Proven ability to lead, communicate with, and mentor others in a manufacturing environment.
  • Willing to travel 50–70% and work weekends/nights/holidays when needed.
  • Willingness to wear PPE and work in challenging production environments.

Responsibilities

  • Identify improvement opportunities for processes and equipment at production sites.
  • Review maintenance and downtime data to identify equipment needing repair or upgrade.
  • Coordinate and lead efforts to return asset performance to base case with internal and third-party support.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and optimization of new assets.
  • Assist asset owners in prioritizing improvement opportunities based on business needs.
  • Develop standardized operating and maintenance strategies with subject matter experts.
