Job summary

Cary Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources seeks a Program Supervisor- Outdoor Education to lead the design, development, and delivery of environmental education programs across the park system. You will oversee specialty sites, coordinate staff, volunteers, and partnerships to provide engaging, nature-based experiences for all ages.

The role requires flexible scheduling including evenings and weekends, strong leadership and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work with the public,

Qualifications

  • Combination of education and experience in recreation or environmental fields.
  • Min 2 years in nature/environmental education or outdoor programming plus 2 years supervisory experience.
  • NC Environmental Education Certification or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience developing nature programs and teaching youth preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise development, planning, and evaluation of environmental programs.
  • Manage programming at Hemlock Bluffs, Penny Road, Bryson Nature Preserves.
  • Develop training for staff in interpretation and natural history.
  • Create curriculum and displays aligned with state standards.
  • Coordinate program schedules, staffing, and registrations.
  • Liaise with schools and the public; lead Cary summer outdoor program coordination.
  • Recruit, hire, supervise temporary staff and volunteers.
