Job summary

New Virginia Majority is Virginia’s leading civic engagement organization working to build power in working-class communities of color across the Commonwealth. We hire a full-time Senior Organizer to develop and execute campaigns addressing the environmental, energy, economic and political impacts of data centers.

Residents along the I-95 corridor and office-based staff in Richmond or Northern Virginia will collaborate to recruit members, develop leaders, and build community-led strategies

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of paid organizing experience.
• Experience leading organizing direct action and legislative campaigns.
• Commitment to social, racial and economic justice.
• Ability to develop and maintain a variety of relationships.
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work independently.
• Experience organizing in communities of color.
• Driver’s license and access to a car.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
• Minimum one-year commitment to the position.

Responsibilities

• Build strong relationships with community members.
• Train and develop NVM members and leaders within data center campaigns.
• Develop relationships with external organizations, officials and community members.
• Follow up with leads via meetings, calls and house visits.
• Track progress and engagement of members and activists.
• Develop member/leader agency through education, reflection and action.
• Participate in campaign development, strategizing and implementation.
• Build campaign coalitions and relationships with allies.
• Perform other duties as required.
