Job summary

Divergent in Los Angeles is seeking a Staff Opto-Mechanical Engineer to own optical and opto-mechanical systems within the laser powder bed fusion platform. You’ll lead investigations, improve calibration, and advance printer architectures with cross-disciplinary teams.

This on-site role requires deep technical capability across optics, mechanicals, controls, and software, plus mentorship of engineers and establishment of engineering standards for robust, production-ready systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/optical physics or related field.
• 7+ years of relevant engineering experience or equivalent.
• Experience owning or leading optical/opto-mechanical development.
• Strong understanding of geometric optics and laser fundamentals.
• Experience with optical alignment, calibration, and system-level budgeting.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a technical authority for printer optics and beam-delivery systems.
• Own system performance, reliability, calibration, and hardware development.
• Lead root-cause investigations on focus, spot size, alignment, and thermal drift.
• Develop optical error budgets, calibration strategies, and validation methods.
• Plan optical characterization, DOE, and system validation.
• Mentor engineers and lead cross-functional technical decisions.
