Job summary

Vertex Optics in Victor, NY is seeking a Senior Optics Technician to fabricate prototype optical components for aerospace, medical, defense, semiconductor, and energy industries. You will set up and operate conventional and CNC fabrication equipment, prepare tooling, and ensure high-quality results within tight tolerances.

The role requires strong technical and mathematical aptitude, Mastercam CAD/CAM experience, and a minimum of 10 years in optical fabrication.

Qualifications

A.S. or B.S. in a technical field is helpful.
Minimum of 10 years' experience fabricating optical materials (glass, crystal, ceramic).
Proficiency with CAD/CAM and Mastercam preferred.

Responsibilities

Produce high quality, complex optical components to customers' specifications.
Set up and operate conventional optical manufacturing equipment and CNC machines (5-axis).
Prepare tooling for grinding, polishing, or measurement setups.
Use measurement devices (CMM, interferometer, micrometers).
Follow engineering drawings and process specifications.
Maintain accurate notes and documentation.
Cross train and assist team members.

Senior Optics Technician

Reports to: Production Manager

Job Summary

Fabricate prototype optical components of exceptional quality for use in aerospace, medical, defense, semi-conductor, and energy industries.

Expectations

Produce high quality, complex optical components to customers' specifications.
Set up and operate conventional optical manufacturing equipment and/or computer-controlled fabrication machines (5- axis simultaneous CNC equipment).
Prepares tooling for grinding, polishing or measurement setups.
Use measurement devices such as CMM, interferometer, micrometers, etc.
Use knowledge, skills and intellect to solve complex problems.
Hold close tolerances during the fabrication and integration of complex optical configurations.
Follow engineering drawings, manufacturing instructions, procedures, process specifications, schematics, sketches, or verbal instructions.
Develop exceptional processes and procedures for Vertex teammates to follow.
Inspect work and hold high-quality standards.
Maintain accurate notes, record data, track job time, and properly fill out documentation.
Communicate safety, quality, productivity, and personnel issues to supervisor.
Cross train and assist team members.

Qualifications

High technical and mathematical aptitude.
A.S. or B.S. technical degree helpful.
CAD/CAM experience – Specifically Mastercam beneficial.
Intermediate computer skills, strong familiarity with Microsoft Office.
Minimum of 10 years' experience fabricating various optical glass, crystal, and ceramic materials.
Machinist experience helpful.
Complex problem-solving skills, good judgment, and decision-making skills.
Self-starter, capable of working with little direction and able to follow procedures.
Strong work ethic, act with integrity, honest, reliable, dependable, and positive attitude.
Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and to prioritize tasks.
Ability to function well in a fast-paced and at times stressful environment.
