Job summary

Amazon Robotics is seeking an Optical System Engineer III to lead end-to-end system design for advanced sensor and compute platforms on the Matrix team.

You will own requirements, drive architecture across optical, mechanical, electrical, and software domains, and coordinate cross-functional reviews to mature manufacturable products.

Expect customer-facing work, Jama-based requirements, verification campaigns, and mentoring teammates while helping define roadmaps and design reviews.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or equivalent.
• 2+ years leading system architecture decisions across optics, mechanics, electronics in product development.
• 2+ years developing system requirements, functional specs, interface control documents, and verification/validation plans.
• Demonstrated experience as the primary technical interface with customers, gathering requirements and translating them into engineering specifications.
• 4+ years of experience with sensing systems (cameras, LiDAR, ToF) and compute platforms in robotics or related fields.

Responsibilities

• Oversee customer discovery sessions to uncover latent requirements and translate them into design goals.
• Own requirements lifecycle from capture through validation; formalize specifications with Jama.
• Drive system architecture choices across optical, mechanical, electrical, and software domains; decompose requirements into sub-team specs.
• Lead product verification end-to-end: define test specs, direct verification campaigns, and drive benchmarking for roadmaps.
