Job summary

Monte Sano Research Corporation in Huntsville, AL seeks a part-time Principal Advisor Senior Optical Engineer to advance HWIL testing of advanced EO/IR missile seekers and optical systems. You will prototype, design, develop, and integrate high-fidelity simulations bridging virtual and real-world performance.

You will work with HWIL engineers, GNC and software teams to deliver testing capabilities, document plans and reports, and support missile guidance tests for Army systems.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in optical engineering for EO/IR seekers and sensors.
• Familiarity with EO/IR blackbody radiometric calibration and laser instrumentation.
• Detail-oriented self-starter with strong work ethic.
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain real-time HWIL simulation capabilities for EO/IR systems.
• Test EO/IR seekers, projectors, collimators, lenses, mirrors, calibration sensors, and optical components.
• Develop and document test plans, procedures, and reports for acceptance testing of EO/IR systems.
• Collaborate with GNC engineers, algorithm developers, and software teams to integrate hardware and software components.
• Support HWIL missile guidance tests for various Army weapon systems.
