Job summary

Valkyrie Enterprises seeks an Optical System Engineer & Lens Designer in Huntsville, AL and Redstone Arsenal, AL, to advance weapon system sensor seekers with scene projection and optical integration. You will lead end-to-end lens design, opto-mechanical packaging, alignment, and optical testing for SWIR/MWIR/LWIR systems.

The role requires BS/MS in optical fields and 5–10+ years in optical design, with Zemax OpticStudio, CAD tools, and multi-spectral optics experience.

Qualifications

BS/MS in Optical Engineering, Physics, or related field; 5–10+ years in optical design/engineering.
Proven ability to design, tolerancing, and analyze complex refractive/reflective optical systems.
Extensive experience with Zemax OpticStudio for ray tracing, optimization, tolerancing.

Responsibilities

Provide advanced optical engineering, lens design, opto-mechanical integration, testing, verification, and analysis for scene projection and weapon system integration and test activities.
Serve as SME for optical engineering and lens design; coordinate with other optical and mechanical engineers.
End-to-end design of refractive and reflective optical systems across visible and infrared wavelengths using Zemax OpticStudio.
Model and analyze optical components, mounts, and systems with opto-mechanical CAD to ensure structural/thermal stability.
Develop custom laser and optical solutions for testing seekers/sensors; manage trade studies and stray light analysis.
Support hands-on assembly, alignment, and optical testing (interferometry, MTF, wavefront) of developed systems.
