Job summary

L.O. Eye Care in Okemos, MI, seeks a Senior Ophthalmic Technician to support patient care in a fast-paced clinic. You’ll prepare patients, perform vision screening, administer eye meds, and document visits in the EMR under provider guidance.

You will train staff as needed, maintain exam rooms, and assist with billing codes to ensure accurate reimbursement. A team-focused environment and growth opportunities await.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • COT certification required.
  • Three years of experience in an ophthalmic setting.
  • COA may be considered in the absence of a COT certification.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patient for appointment and record chief complaints and history.
  • Administer eye medications and instill eye drops as prescribed.
  • Document patient visits, diagnoses and plans in EMR.
  • Maintain exam rooms and assist in minor procedures.
  • Support patient flow and assist in other clinic areas as needed.
  • Ensure proper billing by familiarity with ICD-10/CPT codes.

We also offer on-the-job training to help you grow and succeed in this rewarding role!SummaryThe Senior Ophthalmic Technician will perform a range of duties which includes preparing the patient for the appointment, performing routine vision screening examinations, administering eye medication, and cleaning and preparing exam rooms for patients. The Senior Technician will perform accurate documentation of the patient's visit, diagnosis, and assessment plan as directed by the provider, perform training functions and/or supervise others in the absence of leadership.Essential functionsThe following list is a summary of the key functions of the job and may not be inclusive of all duties assigned.Obtain and records patient's chief complaint and complete ocular and medical history.Informs patients of the purpose of all tests personally performed and how they will be affected during the tests.Instills eye drops and any other medications as prescribed by the provider.Performs accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks using necessary or required tools and machines to include but not limited to: Visual Acuity, ARK, Lensometry, Confrontation fields, evaluation of motility, pupillary function tests, IOP check, Visual Fields, BAT, Pachymetry, Corneal Topography, OCT, Fundus photography, IOL Master/A-scan, Stereo Vision testing, color vision testing and refracting.Assists in maintaining efficient patient flow by seeing patients within designated time frame and by helping in other clinic areas where patient flow is heavier (as training permits).Stocks and cleans clinical areas as outlined by Clinical Manager.Maintains universal precautions and proper cleaning of exam rooms and/or equipment between patients.Informs Clinical Manager of potential equipment problems and/or lack of quality equipment results.Proficient in setting up and assisting provider in minor office procedures.Accurate documentation and summarization of patient's ocular examination, assessment and plan including follow-up care in EMR as dictated by the provider.Maintains familiarization with ICD-10, CPT and billing codes and protocols to ensure appropriate billing for services and procedures.Provides telephone support regarding ocular emergencies, patient care questions and pharmacy refills as directed by the Clinical Manager.Documents all conversations involving the patient in the respective patient's chart.Other tasks specific to the provider's needs as a result of new technologies.Core CompetenciesAll employees of L.O.
