Job Description

The Senior Operations Manager is accountable for all aspects of the operation's performance of the assigned Industrial Services site including daily operations, employee management, service delivery excellence and supporting the General Manager in the delivery of expected P&L.

  • Accountable for Health, Safety and Environment of personnel and the enforcement of all regulations as per the Company Health and Safety Manual, and the immediate reporting of any health, safety or environmental incidents, accidents or concerns to the Manager/Supervisor and H&S department for action.
  • Accountable for achieving the operational KPIs and objectives established by the General Manager/Senior Director.
  • Responsible to ensure services are performed in accordance with federal and local regulations.
  • Accountable for the delivery of product test data to achieve client satisfaction by maintaining production and specified turnaround targets.
  • Monitors production of each department and ensures optimum staff levels/shifts to achieve SGS standards for production, quality and financial performance.
  • Reports turnaround times and manages to goal of 100% on time delivery.
  • Manages labor ratios, adding and reducing staff where workload and financial performance warrant.
  • Monitors and reports weekly projection status (# samples processed/personnel). Maintains production targets and takes proactive measures to sustain these targets.
  • Support General Manager in customer meetings.
  • Promotes the image, capability and integrity of the company to the clients.
  • Maintains high quality standards through strict adherence to group, regional and country policies, procedures and standards.
  • At all times, complies with SGS Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education/ Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or related sciences AND
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a regulated, commercial lab environment, AND
  • 5+ years supervisory experience,
  • Experience managing technical teams in a service-related environment
  • Master of Business Administration or Master of Science in Chemistry or Engineering (preferred)

  • Reasoning Skills/Abilities - Advanced
  • Computer Skills: MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) – Intermediate user proficiency required, database management, CRM and LIMS experience

  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of management, suppliers and clients
