Job summary

Temporal Technologies is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Open Source Server team. You will work on the core Temporal server, covering matching, scheduling, workflow execution, visibility, quotas and throttling, with emphasis on reliability and developer experience.

You will collaborate with experienced engineers to design, build, and operate the distributed systems platform that powers both open source users and enterprise customers.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building and operating production distributed systems.
• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, concurrency, fault tolerance, scheduling and performance.
• CS fundamentals in multi-threading and concurrency.
• Experience writing concurrent production code in Go or Java or similar.
• Experience building high-scale or performance-sensitive backend services.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting and observability skills.
• Experience designing backend APIs or platform services.
• Ability to collaborate across engineering teams and discuss technically.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and ship features for the Temporal server.
• Address distributed systems challenges across matching, scheduling, workflow execution, visibility, quotas, throttling and persistence.
• Balance developer experience with performance and operability requirements.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to build scalable technical solutions.
• Improve reliability via testing, observability, dashboards, alerts and runbooks.
• Participate in design discussions and code reviews to maintain code quality.
• Contribute to developing the developer experience for OSS and enterprise users.
• Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge.
