Job summary

Temporal Technologies is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Open Source Server. You will design, implement, and ship features for the Temporal server, tackling distributed systems challenges across matching, scheduling, workflow execution, and observability.

You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to build scalable, reliable backend services and contribute to the developer experience for open source users and enterprise customers.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building and operating production distributed systems.
• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, concurrency, fault tolerance, scheduling, and performance.
• Experience writing concurrent code in Go or Java.
• Experience building high‑scale or performance‑sensitive backend services.
• Ability to collaborate across engineering teams and contribute to technical discussions.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and ship features for the Temporal server.
• Solve distributed systems challenges across task matching, scheduling, workflow execution, and observability.
• Make thoughtful engineering tradeoffs across developer experience, performance, and operability.
• Partner with engineers, product managers, cloud teams, and customer-facing teams to build scalable solutions.
• Improve reliability and operability through testing, dashboards, alerts, and runbooks.
• Participate in design discussions and code reviews to maintain a high-quality codebase.
• Contribute to improving the developer experience for open source users and enterprises.
• Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge with teammates.
