Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Senior Ocean Engineer to support the Undersea Systems Division. You will lead cradle-to-grave system design, build, installation, and maintenance of underwater infrastructure and sensor arrays for defense missions.

You will mentor junior engineers, apply hydrodynamics and underwater acoustics, and work across teams to deliver robust maritime solutions in challenging ocean environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical/Ocean Engineering, Naval Architecture, or related field.
• 15+ years of experience in ocean engineering or related disciplines.
• Experience with underwater/marine engineering and maritime environments.
• Experience with SolidWorks software.
• Proficiency with OrcaFlex, MathCAD, Matlab, and other analysis tools.
• Experience in undersea hardware system development.
• Ability to collaborate with government customers, staff, and peers.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.
• Ability to obtain a Secret Security clearance.
• Physical ability to meet job requirements (ladder access, extended hours, depth perception, vehicle operation).

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, integration, testing, and deployment of advanced maritime and undersea systems for mission success.
• Apply expertise in ocean engineering, hydrodynamics, underwater acoustics, and environmental conditions to optimize system performance.
• Provide technical mentorship across multidisciplinary teams and guide system design decisions.
• Plan and execute analyses, modeling, simulations, and at-sea testing to validate performance and reliability.
• Drive innovation and continual improvement in underwater technologies and maritime platforms.
• Collaborate with program managers, customers, scientists, and engineers to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Lead investigations, root-cause analyses, and design improvements across the product lifecycle.
• Contribute in design reviews, customer engagements, proposals, and strategic technology development.
