Job summary

CVS Health is seeking a Senior Observability Platform Engineer to design, build, and operate large-scale observability services across multiple environments. You will lead OpenTelemetry adoption, develop backend services in Go/Python/Java, and collaborate with SRE, Cloud, and Infra teams to ensure reliable, secure, and cost-efficient observability at scale.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering.
• 3+ years observability practices including SLIs/SLOs/SLAs.
• 3+ years building production-grade backend services in Go and/or Java.
• 3+ years implementing OpenTelemetry and instrumentation patterns.
• 3+ years with cloud-native platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, Argo CD).
• 3+ years with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• 2+ years designing distributed high-volume data pipelines.
• 2+ years with Terraform or CloudFormation.
• 2+ years with Helmcharts, Kustomize.
• 2+ years with Grafana OSS or similar observability backends.
• 2+ years with PostgreSQL/MySQL.

Responsibilities

• Develop custom software to drive the observability platform using Java Spring Boot, Python, Go.
• Design, build, and operate core observability platform services in Go, Python, Java.
• Support and lead enterprise-wide OpenTelemetry adoption and patterns.
• Architect and scale high-throughput telemetry pipelines (logs, metrics, traces).
• Develop self-service observability capabilities for onboarding and troubleshooting.
• Implement end-to-end monitoring of the observability platform with SLOs and alerts.
• Collaborate with SRE, Platform, and Cloud teams to establish reliability standards.
• Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident mitigation and root-cause analysis.
• Automate workflows and reduce toil via tooling and CI/CD enhancements.
• Ensure secure telemetry pipelines with mTLS, secrets management, and zero-trust design.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation and best practices.
• Engage with teams to gather requirements and influence roadmap.
• Provide technical leadership through mentorship and design reviews.
