Job summary

Kairos Power is seeking a Senior Mechanical Systems Licensing Engineer to lead licensing activities for the FHR reactor facility. The role requires collaboration with design, safety analysis, and technology teams to ensure regulatory alignment and prepare submittals to USNRC.

Strong candidates have mechanical/chemical design experience and a willingness to learn nuclear licensing processes, with responsibilities including strategy development, pre-application interactions, and coordination

Qualifications

• BS or MS degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Nuclear Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in facility or system engineering design, analysis, construction, qualification, testing, or implementation; nuclear licensing experience not required—we are willing to provide training.
• Experience in system design with understanding of evaluation, design and implementation of new technologies.
• Demonstrated coordination skills with advisory, relationship and stakeholder management in a startup environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop licensing document content and related products focused on reactor facility systems.
• Lead the development of portions of Kairos Power license applications and support planning and defense activities.
• Prepare for and support pre-application meetings with USNRC.
• Develop licensing strategies supporting license applications and execution.
• Lead resolution of key licensing issues including reactor vessel design and material qualification.
• Coordinate with engineering and safety teams to develop safety analysis documentation.
• Coordinate with teams to support testing programs meeting regulatory requirements.
• Support project management to develop execution plans with schedules, milestones and cost models.
