Job summary

Kairos Power in Alameda, CA seeks a Senior Director of Power Plant Engineering to lead the technical adequacy and execution of plant designs. Reporting to the VP of Engineering Design, this role combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic decision authority to drive safe, reliable nuclear plant systems.

You will direct Reactor Systems, Balance of Plant, and Nuclear Design activities, establish design standards, manage risk, and ensure timely inputs to layout, licensing, procurement,

Qualifications

• 20+ years of engineering experience in nuclear power generation, design, licensing, construction, or operations.
• 10+ years of progressive engineering leadership leading large multidisciplinary teams (100+ people).
• Experience as Chief Engineer, Design Authority, Engineering Director, or equivalent senior role.
• Strong knowledge of design control, configuration management, and regulatory requirements in a nuclear/regulated setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the Plant Engineering department (Reactor Systems, Pebble Handling, Reactor Coolant, Instrumentation, Electrical, Nuclear Design, Balance of Plant).
• Establish technical direction, maintain standards, and ensure high-quality engineering products per Design Control Program.
