Job summary

Vistra Nuclear Operations Company in Perry, Ohio, is seeking a senior Lead Fuels Engineer to direct the nuclear fuel transition across Vistra plants in support of a major power uprate program.

You will provide technical leadership, own the fuel design integration, licensing support, vendor management, and plant implementation, serving as the senior technical authority for fuel performance and licensing deliverables. The role demands strong regulatory compliance and program execution discipline.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Nuclear/Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 8+ years commercial nuclear experience with fuel, reactor engineering, safety analysis, or licensing.
• Experience reviewing and accepting technical or licensing deliverables for a utility.
• Experience managing nuclear fuel vendors or major engineering suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Lead fleet-wide fuel transition strategy for three nuclear plants supporting the uprate.
• Coordinate safety analysis, reactor physics, thermal hydraulics, operations, licensing readiness, and startup readiness activities.
• Define fuel-related technical positions, engineering requirements, and acceptance criteria, with senior leadership recommendations.
• Enforce owner acceptance of vendor analyses, safety reports, methodologies, reload evaluations, and licensing deliverables.
• Ensure vendor products are technically sound, traceable, and NRC-ready with owner comments resolved.
• Serve as the primary technical interface for the nuclear fuel vendor and ensure regulatory readiness.
• Support NRC interactions and licensing basis development related to fuel design and uprate safety analysis.
• Develop and execute the integrated fuel transition plan across all three units.
