Job summary

KBR, Inc. in Houston, TX, seeks a Senior Engineering Manager, Nuclear, to lead multidisciplinary teams across Nuclear, Mechanical, Process, Electrical, I&C, Civil/Structural, and more in delivering major nuclear projects from feasibility through startup.

This Principal role requires 15+ years of nuclear/industrial experience, leadership of large capital projects, familiarity with AMR/SMR, and strong governance, safety culture, and regulatory engagement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent. Technical Management, or related technical fields may also be considered with extensive proven relevant experience.
• Minimum 15 years of progressive engineering experience in nuclear, industrial or heavy manufacturing environments.
• Demonstrated experience supporting: Advanced Modular Reactors (AMR); Small Modular Reactors (SMR); Generation IV Reactor Technologies; Large Nuclear Capital Projects; Proven experience managing engineering teams on large-scale capital projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead and provide technical direction to multidisciplinary engineering teams, including Nuclear, Mechanical, Process, Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls, Civil/Structural, Systems, Safety Analysis, and Plant Integration disciplines.
• Serve as the Engineering Manager and Design Authority for major nuclear energy projects, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient execution throughout the project lifecycle.
• Establish and oversee engineering execution strategies, technical standards, governance processes, policies, and procedures to support consistent project delivery and engineering excellence.
• Direct engineering activities from feasibility studies and front-end engineering through detailed design, procurement, construction support, commissioning, startup, and operational readiness.
• Lead engineering efforts supporting Advanced Reactor, Small Modular Reactor (SMR), and Advanced Modular Reactor (AMR) programs.
• Manage engineering interfaces with clients, reactor technology suppliers, utilities, EPC contractors, regulatory agencies, licensors, OEMs, and external engineering partners.
• Develop and manage engineering staffing plans, resource forecasts, succession strategies, and capability development initiatives to ensure organizational readiness and long‑term growth.
